While the city sweep streets, empties city trashcans, and removes large items (like mattresses) reported to SF311, businesses and residents are responsible for maintaining sidewalks.
It depends on the specific services requested (such as the number of days per week), but typical weekly litter removal on a typical block in San Francisco costs $75 per month per side of the street.
If you make a donation, 100% of your contribution funds litter pickup. I work with the community to identify hard hit areas and channel any unsed funds to cleaning those areas.
Workers are independent contractors who get paid 1 month in advance via Paypal at a rate approximately 2 times the minimum wage. Despite this generous pay, because we take no profit, our services cost way less than other options.
No, we do not remove encampments or distrub the homeless. We strictly enforce this policy without exception.
We don't remove large items, but we do report large items we encounter to SF311 via Twitter. SF311 typically addresses the issue within a couple hours.
I am a long time San Francisco resident who has always been bothered by the litter on our streets. During the pandemic in 2020, after the city temporarily halted cleaning services, the problem got far worse. At the same time, lots of people were losing their jobs in the service industry. I envisioned Clean Streets as an opportunity to have a positive impact on the community I love, by helping address our long-standing litter problem and providing high paying jobs.
